Morning Glories and look a like.

CAUTION: Seeds of this flowering plant are poisonous. Exercise extreme caution around children and pets.

Morning Glory's have a hard seed shell. To aid germination, nick or cut the seed with a nail file and soak the seed overnight before planting outdoors.

Ipomoea purpurea

This  heirloom morning glory originated in Bavaria (Germany) and was brought to the US by John Ott. The very vigorous vines grow to 15' in length and the  blooms are a deep purple with a red star

Distinctively different, exotic-looking climber from Japan. Velvet like, double or single blooms of blue with contrasting, white rims.  Ht. 4-6'. Annual.

Cardinal Climber Morningglory (A):
 Ipomoea X multifida
The updated name for this hybrid is Ipomoea sloteri

Crimson trumpet-shaped flowers are offset by the emerald green of the deeply cut, almost fernlike foliage. Reaching up to 15 feet from a spring sowing, Cardinal Climber is perfect for covering a wall, fence or trellis.

The funnel shaped flowers are sky blue at first, then turn purplish as they age. Blooms from early summer until frost. Considered a weed by some people due to it's habit of being a twining climber that can chock other plants. Also it freely reseeds itself. An annual in colder climates.
