Pictures of Wren -- House and Carolina

Wren is the common name for members of a family of insectivorous songbirds. Most are small, ranging from 10 to 22 cm (4 to 8.75 in) in length. The plumage is brown, with white, black, and gray markings. Wrens are highly vocal, and in many species males and females sing duets.

The house wren (Troglodytes aedon), which breeds from Canada to southern South America, is about 13 cm (about 5 in) long. Its plumage is brown, with black bars on top and paler underneath.

It is one of the most valuable birds because of the tremendous amount of insects it consumes. Common to the State of Maryland. North American Songbird.

Size 4 1/2 inches. Rusty brown above and lighter brown  below with a conspicuous white line over the eyes.
